Unofficial Pac-10 Power Rankings Week 7

Almost forgot to do these in time for tonights game, but made it in under the deadline. The big news of the day was the Pac-12 division announcements. If I include Utah at 2 and Colorado at 11 here’s how the two divisions would rank:

North:
Oregon – 1
Stanford – 3
Washington – 6
OSU – 7
Cal – 9
WSU – 12
AVG = 6.333

South
Utah – 2
Arizona – 4
USC – 5
ASU – 8
UCLA – 10
Colorado – 11
AVG = 6.667

And since you could probably throw UW, OSU and ASU in any order for the three spots I have them in i’d say that comes up pretty well balanced.

1. Oregon
6-0 (3-0 Pac-10)
LW: 1
Bye week for the Ducks leading up to tonights game against UCLA. As a Husky I can’t root for the Ducks. As a Husky I can’t root for Rick Neuheisal and as a Trojan I can’t root for the Bruins in general. Go Refs!

2. Stanford
5-1 (2-1)
LW: 2
Bye week for the Cardinal too who got two weeks to prepare for WSU. This one could be a blowout if they use it as a game to showcase Luck and build his stats for a Heisman run.

3. Arizona
4-1 (2-1)
LW: 4
The Wildcats follow up their close loss to OSU with a surprisingly close win (yes i’d say only beating the cougs 24-7 counts as close) against WSU. Unfortunately QB Nick FOles is out for the next few weeks so backup Matt Scott will be at the helm when Washington comes to town this weekend.

4. USC
4-2 (2-2)
LW: 5
After two heartbreaking losses in a row the Trojans took out their frustrations on a hapless California. 42-0 at halftime pretty much says it all. After surrendering over 400 yards rushing combined in their previous two games, the Trojan defense held the Bears to a scant 52. USC gets the weekend off before the Oregon Ducks (likely still #1) come to town.

5. Washington
3-3 (2-1)
LW: 8
Would the real Washington Huskies please stand up? Following a loss to ASU, the Huskies rebounded by taking a 21 point lead over visiting Oregon State. Then, as the second quarter came to a close the Beavers cut the lead to 7. After halftime it was all tied up. A missed field goal by the Huskies was the only real scoring opportunity until double overtime. In the second OT the Beavers went for 2 and the win but the ball was dropped in the end zone and the Huskies continued their alternating W/L pattern. Can they break the streak in Tucson?

6. Oregon State
3-3 (2-1)
LW: 3
The Beavers have an easy stretch against Cal, UCLA, and WSU coming up after their bye this weekend. Which is good because they finish out the season with USC, Stanford and Oregon.

7. ASU
4-3 (1-1)
LW: 5
The Sun Devils got a week off after their upset win over Washington and travel to California this weekend to take on the Bears. It will be their third away game in a row. I beat they are looking forward to that home game against Washington State on the 30th but they better take care of buisness against the Bears first if they hope to be bowl eligible.

8. Cal
3-3 (2-1)
LW: 7
The fighting Tedfords, were well, not very good at the fighting last weekend. USC basically had their way with the Bears all night long. Coach Tedfords seat may be starting to feel warm with another loss this weekend.

9. UCLA
3-3 (1-2)
LW: 9
I would have dropped the Bears to this spot, but they did beat UCLA the week before and with the Bruins on a bye week I saw no reason for them to jump the bears. Taking on the Ducks in Autzen tonight.

10. Washington State
1-5 (0-3)
LW: 10
Another surprisingly competitive game for the Cougars, but again, another loss. Headed down to The Farm this weekend. No team needs a bye more than the Cougs, but they don’t get one until their 11th game of the season. Ouch.
