Rocky Mountain High

You may notice that my blog has a new masthead, an image of the Denver skyline set against the Rockies. I took the photo Sunday at the Museum of Nature and Science, whose atrium has one of the most breathtaking views of the city you’ll find. More pics here, including the full panorama shown (in part) in the masthead.

Winter Spring Wonderland

Two of the biggest, if not the two biggest, snowstorms we’ve gotten this winter in Denver, didn’t happen during the winter at all. The first was just before Halloween. The second was last night and this morning, during many local schools’ spring break, several days after the vernal equinox. Go figure. Anyway, here are a couple of photos from this… Read more »

Spring Break Snowpocalypse

Ever since the Beltway blizzards, I’ve been making #snowpocalypse jokes whenever we get a flurry in Denver. But, in all seriousness, it’s pretty intense out there right now. But tonight, on my commute home, I heard a story on Colorado Public Radio about the current budget debate — and it made me furious with… Read more »

A slice of March Madness in Colorado?

Comments Off on A slice of March Madness in Colorado?

Unlike my last two home cities (South Bend and Knoxville), Denver isn’t much of a college-sports town — pro sports definitely rules the roost here. But, depending on how things play out in the Big Sky Conference, we could end up with some March Madness up in Greeley, 60 miles north of town, on the 9th and 10th of next… Read more »

No business like snow business

Today, we took a family day trip up into the mountains, to Breckenridge, to view the entries in the International Snow Sculpture Championships. Here’s a photo of Becky and Loyette, looking at one of the sculptures: All the sculptures started out as Borg-like cubes, such as this… …but were transformed, over the course of five days from January 26-30, into… Read more »
