I think the Vegas odds as an indicator only make sense if you believe that ratings should be an indicator of future performance and not past results. In Vegas past results are only interesting in so far as they help predict future outcomes, but in the polls, the way they are SUPPOSED to work, past results are all that should matter. In my mind a team is only overrated in the polls (or underrated) if their past performance and current rating are in disagreement, Oregon and Cal are a great example of this.
