I’m probably in last by virtue of missing two weeks. Note to self: don’t enter Pick ‘Em leagues. You don’t actually follow through with ’em.

As a USC fan…who SHOULD I root for this weekend….the team that beat USC (Washington) so that the loss won’t look so bad…or the team that plays USC later this season (ND) so that a potential USC victory will look better?????

It’s not “later this season,” it’s both teams’ very next game. (The Trojans and Irish both have byes next week, then play each other on October 17.) So I’d root for ND this week. Otherwise, USC is playing a 3-2 Irish team coming off a loss, and gets no boost whatsoever from a win. Whereas, with a win over UW tomorrow, the Irish could conceivably be ranked in two weeks, if there are enough upsets above them in the mean time. (They’re currently 8th in both polls’ “others receiving votes” category.)

Then, root for Washington to win out (finishing 9-3). Or, if you’re one of those people who actually wants to go to the Rose Bowl (as opposed to Fiesta, Sugar or Orange) if we go 11-1 but don’t make the title game, then root for Washington to lose to ND and lose one more Pac-10 game (finishing 8-4). Personally, I’d rather see UW and USC finish tied for the Pac-10 title, the Huskies win the tiebreaker and go to the Rose Bowl, and the Trojans get picked up as an at-large team in another BCS bowl, hopefully to play an SEC or Big 12 team instead of some lame-ass Big Ten team. Heck, I’d rather play Boise State or TCU in the Fiesta Bowl than Ohio State or Penn State again. What do we prove by beating the Big Ten champ by multiple touchdowns that we haven’t already proved repeatedly in recent years? I know the Rose Bowl is cool and all, but really.
