Well, I posted it yesterday when it was first reported by sources that it was going to happen, but this was the official announcement. Making matters worse, FriendFeed didn’t import this tweet until this evening, so although the tweet is timestamped 4:04 PM, it didn’t appear until the blog (via FF) until just recently.

Seems like most people on this very blog don’t give a crap about Crist, but I think this is a watershed moment in the Republican party. Crist was the darling of the Republican party just 2 years ago, and is now a villain.

The most amazing thing I heard (on fox news of course) was a Republican commentator or ‘strategist’ say that ‘much like Arlen Specter, Crist has defected to the Democratic party and we won’t miss him. The Republican party hasn’t changed, he has’. That was mind-blowing, the lack of self-awareness that conserve-a-bots are experiencing. John McCain, Arlen Specter, and Charlie Crist were all moderate/liberal conservatives, they haven’t changed. The Republican party HAS changed drastically. They’re pulling so far to the right it could destroy the party, and they don’t even see it. Not that, that’s a bad thing.

    Sandy:

Have you already forgotten Sen. Lieberman? He WAS The vice-presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. He hasn’t changed, the democratic party has changed drastically. They’re pulling so far to the left it could destroy the party and they don’t even see it. Not that that is a bad thing.

The Democrats control every branch of government. The Republicans are desperate to get back into power. Get the point?

McCain is running to the right, Specter is going to lose and Crist is going to lose. So What exactly is your point?

  6. Sandy Underpants

McCain can’t run to the right of JD hayworth, unless his wife signs off on his labotomy. Specter will win, he’s been decaying in office for like 40 years post-mortem. Crist won’t win, but neither will Rubio, so that’s another one for the good guys.

The Republicans are chasing their tails, and won’t realize how little their paranoid manic rants resonate with real americans, who already lived through one Republican decade-long disaster already, until after November.

This statement demonstrates once again how out of touch with reality you are gahrie. Joe Lieberman has changed his positions and attitudes significantly on a number of issues since his stint as the VP nominee. You are either ignorant of the information you claim to know or are just plain nuts. Brendan can provide (and has in the past) a more detailed look athow much Lieberman has changed.

Furthermore, what is your evidence that the left is pulling so far left? Destory the party? The GOP is the party thats falling apart lately. They can’t even advance a cohernet position other than “no”. They are mired in ideological baggage preventing them from seeing the things right in front of them (we can’t regulate, regulation is bad, oh hey why is wall street imploding…) not to mention staggeringly hypocrtical. Their standards bearers are a failed Governor with the IQ or a rock, a bigotted drug addicted radio host, and an entertainment channel masquerading as a news network.

TRUE conservatives have been pushed into the GOP ghetto by the religious right, and fear and hatred are the order of the day.

Look up “irony” on Wikipedia and it has David K’s picture … “They can’t even advance a cohernet (sic) position other than “no”. “ … (my emphasis) …

” Their standards bearers are a failed Governor with the IQ or a rock, a bigotted drug addicted radio host, and an entertainment channel masquerading as a news network.” – and what have Al Gore and MSNBC to do with anything cohernet, David K ?
