    According to the black guy from Stanford on ESPN Gameday, USC could end up in the same division as Colorado, so that would mean you get SC games every other year. I hope the Pac adds some more teams this offseason like maybe BYU and Hawaii. Would make the most diverse conference in sports that much more.

    Yes, that’s the whole point of this post. I previously blogged about the various possibilities, and then linked and tweeted repeatedly about what appeared to be solid confirmation that, yes indeed, the Trojans would be visiting Boulder every two years. Now that seems slightly less certain.

    @Sandy

    BYU will never be invited to join the Pac-10 for two reasons. One, its religious affiliation and two, its scheduling headaches.

    Utah joining makes it even less likely because we now HAVE a foothold in the Salt Lake City market, why would we add another when there are other options?

    Hawaii is not likely either. Its not academically or athletically competetive.

    Boise State, another perennial favorite of people who don’t understand expansion is also a no go because its not even a research university.

    Why is the religious affiliations of BYU and Baylor such a big deal?

    Especially since USC was originally a religious school…..it’s first name was Southern Methodist University.

    gahrie, the why is irrelevant, it just is for the current Pac-10 schools. There’s a difference between having a current denominational affiliation, and having one 100 years ago.

    In particular Cal and Stanford have been noted as the most vocal objectors to religious affiliated schools like Baylor and BYU. I think it also matters WHICH religions they are affiliated with. Its entirely possible they might not object to Notre Dame joining (if that were a somehow realistic possibility) based on its academic history.
