    In Maine the Democrats faced a similar problem several years ago. Angus King was an independent…but primarily supported by Democrats. So when he ran for re-election there was a significant concern that the Democrat candidate would not get the required minimum vote (I don’t recall exactly what the % requirement was in Maine…nor whether the consequences were the same as in Colorado.) In any event there was a big Democrat campaign to get people to “save” the party. It worked…at least the candidate got enough votes even though King easily won re-election.
