Wanted: Suggestions for names of a @midmajority-inspired blog (well, blog section) about the U. of Denver (DU) men’s hoops team (Pioneers).
I’m going to be credentialed media and everything. Brendan’s excellent mid-major sportswriting adventure! But I need a name. Pioneer Post?
Another option is something involving the word “ballz,” as I’ll soon be getting a DU BALLZ (Bally) from @whelliston and @ballybasketball.

I like Pioneer Express, but as a play on your tendency to glom on to teams, Pioneer (band)Wagon?
Pioneer Full Court Press as a play off the various newspaper orgs named Pioneer Press.
    Mile High Cow Pie?

    Dizzying Bandwagons?

I mean, my head spins trying to keepnupmwith the teams you follow. You don’t even do us the service of dropping any of them!

Heh. After getting sucked fully into the world of Kyle Whelliston and his merry band of mid-major obsessives last March, I decided to embark on this project. Actually, the original idea was to simply print out a “Certificate of Emotional Investment” at the beginning of the season (Kyle assures me they’ll be back), and “adopt” DU as “my” mid-major/”Other 25″ team for the entire season. (Gonzaga doesn’t count, per Kyle’s rules.) But then I got to thinking about it, and I realized, hey, I have a journalism degree! And I have a blog! And soon I’ll have a Bally! (Er, BALLZ.) Why not put these things together and do a blog/reporting/journalism/commentary/whatever project… sort of a microcosmic, DU-specific, pale-shadow-imitation-tribute to the Mid-Majority… so I got in touch with the Assistant SID for men’s basketball at DU. Turns out, he’s a really nice guy, and also a big fan of Kyle’s, and was delighted to help me out. So I’m getting credentials, I may be able to sit on press row for some games, etc. etc. I’m both nervous and excited! Haven’t done any “real reporting” since, well, since the last time USC football had a losing streak, roughly. And haven’t interviewed an athlete since high school! But it should be fun and interesting. I’m not sure how much will be first-person journalism and how much third-person… how much I’ll strive to be unbiased or just embrace fandom… dunno. I’ll be figuring it out as I go along. Sort of like the podcast! Heh.

Anyway, keep the name suggestions coming!

As judgmental as this may sound, I don’t think anything with “Ballz” would be a good name if you’re going after some semblance of professionalism and/or want to be on the DU sports department’s good side.
