Duke getting upset last night by AZ seriously hurts my chances. Up until then I was in a position to get separation on other people but they couldn’t get any on me unless Butler lost. Now I loose a lot of points on the other side of the bracket.

I think this may be the only time in my life I’ve been upset that Duke lost… Damn bracket things…

Perhaps, but if Arizona beats UConn, not many people had that, so you won’t gain points against the field but you won’t lose them either.

I haven’t run all the possible scenarios (there are still 2,048 of them), but I have to believe you’re in excellent shape if Butler wins the title. Which is, obviously, a huge “if.” 🙂

Well, yes if Butler wins the title I’m pretty sure I win, I would assume that’s a big chunk of the 498 possible win scenarios for me. But I would surmise that whatever balance is left where I win even if Butler does not now requires them to go to the championship game. Though given the number of people that had Duke, it probably did before anyway, so I suppose it is no great loss as long as UConn losses…

I’m actually amazed Duke’s loss didn’t totally destroy my chances. Granted, I’m down to 2 scenarios — my guess is that I’m indifferent to tonight’s VCU/Florida State game, and otherwise need every remaining game to go the way I predicted, with Arizona taking the place of Duke — but, still, I’m far enough back that losing my predicted champ and yet not being completely eliminated is a surprise to me.

Okay, I think looking at this, if Butler wins I win, if Butler goes to the championship and OSU does not I can win in a few scenarios. In other words, the only rational way I win this is if Butler wins out. Which goes to show I should have done some reading on who was actually favored in this thing and by how much and picked Butler OSU in the final. In which case I would be in a lot better shape…

The good news now that I have been eliminated from any chance to win…is that I can actually root for the teams that I want to win….rather than the teams that I picked. So go Arizona, Butler, and VCU.

Brendan, you better remind yourself to breathe. Butler+Gus+Final Four=Brendan collapsing in spasms of joy.

The good news for you is, if any #1 seed can choke against a mid-major, it’s Kansas.

P.S. I have a bad feeling Kansas is going to knock out all 3 of the mid-majors that made the Sweet 16. I hope I’m wrong. GO VCU!
