OMG:

[A]s if any Irish-Trojans confrontation required a more electrified backdrop, there was this bombshell out of South Bend on Wednesday: Notre Dame will host its first home night game in 21 years this fall, and the opponent will be USC.

The Oct. 22 matchup between the teams will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CDT. It’s the first Notre Dame Stadium night game since Michigan visited under the lights in 1990.

OMG. WANT.

If the haven’t played a home night game since 1990, they are probably going to need to get themselves some new lights… That seems kind of stupid for one game…

Naw, it’ll be a candle-light service, errr game. Just give out those candles with the cardboard drip gaurds to the crowd before hand.

Heh. David, you were one of two people to tweet some variation of that joke at me within an hour of my initial tweet about this.

dcl, they have lights. They just don’t start games at night. Start times are always 2:30 or 3:30 PM. As the season gets into October and November, and with the long NBC commercial breaks, games are plenty long enough to stretch into the night (as the USC-ND game in 2005 unforgettably did). But a game STARTING at night is a whole different animal.

I have a sneaking suspicion they may wear green jerseys, too. Just a hunch.

Hmm, candle light game, replace the marching band with a Gregorian choir, nuns instead of refs, announcer speaking in Latin…

Oh, can’t forget the crowd has to sit, stand, or kneel periodically throughout the game.
