Loyette dispenses epic wisdom; LRT pools turn 16; Morrison leads NIT pool

As Loyacita was filling out her bracket this morning, Loyette chimed in with some wisdom. Listen until the end for the punch line. Clearly we’re raising this kid right:

LOL! Loyette FTW!

In other news, today is the 16th anniversary of my announcement of the first-ever Living Room Times NCAA Pool (or “pool/poll,” as I initially called it) in the old LRT newspaper during my freshman year at Newington High. That’s more than half my life ago, folks. (Getting old #PANIC!)

You can still enter this year’s Living Room Times NCAA pools (men’s and women’s) — the 17th annual — here. Men’s deadline is tomorrow at noon Eastern; women’s deadline is Saturday morning.

By the way, Jeff Morrison leads the 8th annual NIT Pool with a perfect 8-0 record on the first day. Seventeen contestants are tied for second at 7-1. Full standings here. View everyone’s bracket as a printable PDF here.

Duke is the bad guys, huh?

To quote a friend of mine from another message board (and this friend happens to be a University of Maryland fan and alum)

“Duke basically represents “what is right” with college athletics. Student athletes who achieve academically and on the playing field. Kids graduate with alarming regularity, and we almost never hear of any scandals coming out of that campus. They earn a degree from a top notch university, and on a fairly regular basis hang another championship banner from the rafters.”

If those are vices that you care to teach your children are wrong and evil, by all means continue to teach her that the Blue Devils are the bad guys. If, on the other hand, you want to encourage her to value student athletes graduating and achieving academically and unviersities who achieve great things athletically despite the fact that they play by the rules, then you might want to re-evaluate the priorities you’re teaching the kid.

I’m with Jay. I’ve never understood Duke hate. I find UNC far more annoying, and of course, since I went to USC, I hate fUCLA even more. My all-time “UGH!” final would be fUCLA vs. UNC. UConn, Kansas, Kentucky, and any team coached by John Calipari are up there as well.
